Spiders Get Clutch 5-3 Win
The Cleveland Spiders had to overcome a fine effort from Miami pitcher José Méndez to win, 5-3, at League Park. Méndez went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Cory Gearrin in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Ricky Nolasco took the loss. Cleveland raised its record to 35-29 with the win.

The decisive blow was delivered by Louis Santop in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 31-year old right-handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco to win the game for Cleveland. The home crowd went nuts.

"It never gets old," said Santop. "Winning, that is."
