Cuban Giants Win Nail-Biter in 11
|
The Miami Cuban Giants and Cleveland Spiders completed their game despite the rain.
The Miami Cuban Giants outlasted the Cleveland Spiders, 5-4, in 11 innings. Gary Sheffield led the way, going 3-for-4 for Miami. Phenomenal Smith came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Miami catcher Iván Rodríguez, facing Mel Harder, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cuban Giants the 5-4 win.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Cuban Giants manager Daniel Makonnen.
The loss puts Cleveland at 3-4.
