New York pitcher Dave Righetti got the win, upping his record to 6-3. Cy Young got the loss. The win puts New York at 45-25 this season.

Mickey Mantle, who is tied for 9th in the AL in extra base hits with 37, came through for New York with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third. The right fielder went 2 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and collected 4 runs batted in.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Mantle, "one at-bat at a time."
