Stars Sneak By ABCs, 3-2
|
Indianapolis got a terrific performance from pitcher Rube Foster, but it wasn't enough to beat the Philadelphia Stars. Philadelphia won the Crosley Park contest, 3-2. Foster threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Philadelphia reliever Bob Howry got the win, raising his record to 2-3. Rob Dibble was tagged with the loss. Don Carman converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of George Hendrick to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Stars on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Philadelphia manager Daniel Makonnen said.
The win gives Philadelphia a season record of 36-36.
