Sheffield Rips 2 Homers in 8-4 Win
|
With third baseman Gary Sheffield leading the charge, the Miami Cuban Giants defeated the San Francisco Sea Lions, 8-4, at Baker Bowl. Sheffield, who is on pace for 106 RBI this season, went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Braden Looper was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities. At 35-40, the Cuban Giants find themselves in third place in the American League Cumberland Posey Division.
Ryan Braun had a big 2-run home run for the Cuban Giants in the bottom of the second inning. With Miami leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Watty Clark and punished it. The result was his 28th home run of the season, which put the Cuban Giants on top, 3-0.
Sheffield told a Miami Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
