Hodges, Sea Dogs Wallop American Giants in Game 1 of R1
|
When the games really matter, the Portland Sea Dogs put on their best show, beating the Chicago American Giants by a final score of 7-0 today. Gil Hodges slugged 3 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring three times. Portland now leads Chicago 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.
The Sea Dogs took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Chicago hurler Tricky Nichols with two outs, Hodges hit a 3-run home run.
Hodges called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Griffith Stadium in Portland.
