Stars Upend Monarchs, 4-1
|
Philadelphia Stars starter Hardie Henderson turned in a top-notch performance against the Kansas City Monarchs at Muehlebach Field 1923-1941. The result was a win for the Stars, 4-1. Henderson, now 9-5, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. The 'W' lifts Philadelphia's record to 39-40.
Philadelphia won the game in part because of Ted Kluszewski. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Stars ahead, 2-0. For the game, Kluszewski had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
Philadelphia manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
