Not everyone stuck through the 82-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.

The New York Black Yankees got a sterling performance from third baseman Mike Schmidt, but the Indianapolis ABCs still prevailed, 8-5. Schmidt belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Indianapolis reliever Willie Mitchell was the winner. His record is now 4-2. The losing pitcher was Gary Lavelle.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-born Johnny Bench came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the ABCs trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Indianapolis on top.

Bench called the triumph "a good team win."

The third-place ABCs have won 7 straight.
