Roy Halladay, who is tied for 4th in the NL in quality starts with 10, was locked in. The right-hander led the Ottawa Mounties to a 4-1 win against the New York Gothams at Polo Grounds. The Mounties, at 39-44, inhabit 4th place in the National League Effa Manley Division.

The Mounties got a big at-bat from designated hitter Rick Monday. For the game, Monday went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. In the top of the second, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 18th home run of the season gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead.

"Roy was able to execute his pitches," said Ottawa manager Daniel Makonnen. "Simple as that."
