Both teams had their chances, but the Philadelphia Stars eventually prevailed.
With third baseman Scott Rolen leading the charge, the Philadelphia Stars defeated the New York Gothams, 7-6, at Polo Grounds. Rolen went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The loss puts New York at 5-5.
Philadelphia used the hitting of Ted Kluszewski to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Stars on top, 3-0. For the game, Kluszewski had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Daniel Makonnen.
