American Giants Suffer 6-4 Road Loss
|
The San Francisco Sea Lions topped the Chicago American Giants, 6-4, in American League action at Oracle Park. The standout performance belonged to San Francisco pitcher and Lonaconing, Maryland, native Lefty Grove. Grove yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 10. His record improves to 11-4. Ken Howell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 4 save opportunities.
The Sea Lions got a big at-bat from center fielder Turkey Stearnes. For the game, Stearnes was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 25th home run of the season gave San Francisco a 4-0 lead.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Grove.
The win gives San Francisco a season record of 56-34.
