Wolverines Need Extra Innings to Top Black Sox, 5-4
|
The Detroit Wolverines withstood an impressive performance by Baltimore designated hitter Gavvy Cravath to defeat the Black Sox, 5-4, at Camden Yards. Cravath was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. Detroit reliever Pete Conway was the winner. His record is now 1-0. John Wetteland took the loss. Mike Henneman earned the save for Detroit, his 2nd of the year.
Hank Greenberg hit a run-scoring triple off John Wetteland in the top of the tenth, which put the Wolverines in front, 5-4. Greenberg had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Greenberg.
The Wolverines, now 2-0, have been playing some good baseball.
