Bell Slugs Sea Dogs to 5-4 Win
A good performance from third baseman Buddy Bell helped the Portland Sea Dogs defeat the New York Black Yankees, 5-4. Bell hit 3 home runs for the Sea Dogs. The win went to Scott Terry in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Sparky Lyle took the loss. The defeat makes New York 56-38.

Joe Mauer came through with a big-time hit for Portland. The catcher smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Portland manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
