Mathewson Too Tough, Blanks Miami
Christy Mathewson pitched a strong game at Polo Grounds today, blanking the Miami Cuban Giants 3-0. Mathewson allowed no runs on 1 hit, totaled 7 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk.

New York manager Daniel Makonnen said he could tell immediately it was going to be a good game for Mathewson.

"Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," Makonnen said. "He threw a lot of strikes."

This year Mathewson has worked 120.1 innings with 113 strikeouts en route to a 10-6 record and 3.96 ERA.
