ABCs Beaten By Gothams, 8-3
|
The New York Gothams finished off the Indianapolis ABCs, 8-3. Much of the credit belonged to catcher Buster Posey. Posey was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Gothams. Christy Mathewson, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-8. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 and walking 4. New York has now won 3 in a row.
With New York leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Posey hit a fastball from Willie Mitchell for a 2-run home run. It was his 25th home run of the season and put the Gothams ahead, 3-0.
"Every time you put a 'W' on the board is always good," said Posey.
