ABCs Fall Short, 3-2, at New York
|
Luis Padrón pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Indianapolis ABCs, despite Padrón's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Gothams at Polo Grounds. Juan Marichal got credit for the win, improving to 8-8. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings. Brian Wilson earned the save, his 13th in 15 tries.
The Gothams got a big at-bat from designated hitter Benny Kauff. For the game, Kauff went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 24th home run of the season gave New York a 2-1 lead.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen.
The third-place Gothams have won 5 in a row.
