Fans watched the Chicago American Giants and the Miami Cuban Giants fight to the finish.

The Chicago American Giants took Miami pitcher Jim Whitney's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Baker Bowl. The final score had Chicago getting past the Cuban Giants, 4-3. Whitney went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 9. Miami's current losing streak is now 5 games.

Frank Thomas came through with a big-time hit for Chicago. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Thomas told the Chicago Times.
