Epstein Chosen #1 Player
Monday, May 21st , 2001
26-year-old Mike Epstein sent shock waves through Whirled Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the National League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Epstein made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .556 average, 10 hits in 18 at-bats, 5 home runs and 11 RBI.
Where the Homestead Grays first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Epstein certainly made his mark last week.
Epstein on the season is hitting .252 with 12 home runs. His stats include 33 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
