No first-year player did it better than Smokey Joe Williams in the month of May! This novice Brooklyn Royal Giants pitcher put up 4 wins to nab the National League Rookie of the Month Award.
He stood out by holding opposing hitters to a .188 batting average and finishing with a strong 4-1 record and a 2.16 ERA. Williams tossed 33.1 innings as he collected 27 strikeouts and issued 10 walks.
