3 Home Runs for Musial
Saturday, June 2nd , 2001
Fans are still buzzing after Kansas City whipped the Wandering House of David by the score of 14-6 at Wrigley Field.
Stan Musial smashed three home runs in the contest, a feat that would be a career highlight for most players and few fans ever see. In a tremendous performance, the left fielder bashed out 3 hits in 4 at-bats, had 4 RBIs and scored 3 times.
At the postgame press conference, Musial said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to hit three home runs in a game.
"Getting one homer is special, and two is great," Musial said. "Three is just... wow."
Stan Musial grounded out in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Kerry Wood in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Wade Miley in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Frank Sullivan in the 8th.
So far this year, Musial has 4 home runs and a .314 batting average.
