Ramírez Selected Top Player
Monday, June 11th , 2001
26-year-old Manny Ramírez sent shock waves through Whirled Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the American League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Ramírez made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .368 average, 7 hits in 19 at-bats, 3 home runs and 10 runs batted in.
Where the Memphis Red Sox right fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Ramírez certainly made his mark last week.
In the current season, Ramírez has put up a .289 batting average with 43 hits, 15 home runs, 42 RBI and scored 28 runs.
