NL Player of the Week Named
Monday, June 18th , 2001
23-year-old Duke Snider sent shock waves through Whirled Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the National League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Snider made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .444 average, 8 hits in 18 at-bats, 5 home runs and 12 runs batted in.
Where the Brooklyn Royal Giants center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Snider certainly made his mark last week.
For the season, Snider is hitting .239, batted in 45 runs with 20 home runs and 31 runs scored.
