3-HR Binge for Guerrero Against Birmingham
Tuesday, July 3rd , 2001
Brooklyn Royal Giants third baseman Pedro Guerrero put on a dazzling display of power at Ebbets Field against the Birmingham Black Barons. In the 8-7 Royal Giants victory, Guerrero penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.

"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Birmingham manager Daniel Makonnen said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."

Along with his three home runs, the 29-year-old had 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Guerrero said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."

Pedro Guerrero hit a solo-shot off Greg Maddux in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Greg Maddux in the 5th, walked in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off Fred Fussell in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 11th.

For the season, Guerrero has hit .239 with 16 home runs and 40 RBIs. He has played in 78 games and scored 37 times.
