Monday, July 16th , 2001
In a powerful performance that left the fans at Yankee Stadium buzzing, Portland Sea Dogs third baseman Buddy Bell blasted a trio of home runs en route to a win, 5-4, over the New York Black Yankees.
"Everything was clicking," Bell told the press. "My timing was good and I got pitches I could handle and I didn't miss them."
Bell shined brilliantly in the win, with 4 hits in 4 at-bats, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"It's not just one guy, it's everybody," Sea Dogs manager Daniel Makonnen said. "Buddy played great but it takes more than one guy to win a game."
Buddy Bell singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Red Ruffing in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Herm Wehmeier in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off David Robertson in the 9th.
This season, Bell is swinging the bat at a .240 rate with 74 hits in 308 at-bats. To date he has hit 15 home runs, scored 30 runs and driven in 39.
