Black Barons-Angels Trade: Tenace for Grich
Friday, August 17th , 2001
The Birmingham Black Barons and Los Angeles Angels have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. Birmingham will part with 23-year old C Gene Tenace, 23-year old minor league RHP Vic Willis, and a 1st round draft pick, while the Angels have dealt 24-year old 2B Bobby Grich and a 3rd round draft pick.
"This one took a while to figure out," said Birmingham general manager Daniel Makonnen. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs."
At present, Tenace is batting .218 with 26 hits and 9 home runs. He has knocked in 16 runs and scored 24 times.
Thus far this season in 114 games, Grich is batting .231 with 20 home runs, 63 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 93 hits in 403 at-bats.
