NL Player of the Week Goes to Banks of Wandering
Monday, August 27th , 2001
25-year-old Ernie Banks sent shock waves through Whirled Baseball last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the National League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Banks made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .483 average, 14 hits in 29 at-bats, 6 home runs and 10 runs batted in.
Where the Wandering House of David shortstop goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Banks certainly made his mark last week.
Thus far this year, Banks is batting .292 with 50 home runs, 108 RBIs and 82 runs scored.
