Monarchs, Rijo Blank Philadelphia, 3-0
Wednesday, August 29th , 2001
José Rijo hurled a fine game for the Kansas City Monarchs at Shibe Park AL, holding the Philadelphia Stars to 2 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Kansas City manager Daniel Makonnen said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The right-hander had 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in the 3-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," Philadelphia manager Daniel Makonnen said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
For the season, Rijo has logged 7 wins and 10 losses and struck out 129 batters in 150 innings while compiling a 4.98 ERA.
