ABCs Hurler Named September's #1 Starter Monday, October 1st , 2001 The Indianapolis ABCs celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Luis Padrón had been selected as September's National League Pitcher of the Month. Padrón's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic. "Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Padrón said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs." Padrón tossed 44 innings last month, holding opponents to a .153 average while striking out 36 batters. In 6 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 2.05. To this point in the season, Padrón shows a 23-3 record, 33 starts, 235 innings, 220 strikeouts and a 3.22 ERA. |
