Spiders Advance to Divisional Playoffs
Tuesday, October 9th , 2001
The excitement in Cleveland is palpable as the local club has advanced through the Wild Card Round.

The Cleveland Spiders downed the New York Black Yankees 4-3 tonight at League Park, to take the series 4-1.

"Things are going to get crazy in Cleveland for the Divisional Playoffs. The fans are going to be behind us 100 percent, we know that," said Arky Vaughan, who earned MVP honors.

"There's a lot of motivation in our clubhouse right now to make sure we give them something to cheer about."

For the series, Vaughan hit .400 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 8 hits, 2 home runs, 5 RBI and scored 5 runs.

The Cleveland Spiders don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Detroit Wolverines - San Francisco Sea Lions series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Divisional Playoffs schedule will be announced after the Wild Card Round finishes.
