Sea Lions Cruise to Whirled Series with Sweep
Thursday, October 18th , 2001
The San Francisco Sea Lions proved to be too much to handle for the Cleveland Spiders in the Divisional Playoffs, and a sweep was the end result.
San Francisco punched its ticket to the Whirled Series on the strength of a 6-2 win in the deciding game, which wrapped up the series 4-0.
San Francisco first baseman Jimmie Foxx, named series MVP, was instrumental in the sweep, as he mashed Cleveland pitching to the tune of a .500 average, with a .588 on-base percentage. He had 4 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 6 runs.
The San Francisco Sea Lions don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Brooklyn Royal Giants - Houston Colt 45s series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Whirled Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Playoffs finishes.
