Gehrig Rocks Spiders for 3 HRs Friday, April 12th , 2002 Players don't hit three home runs in a game very often and when they do, it is something to celebrate. After today, Lou Gehrig can celebrate. The New York Black Yankees first baseman powered three into the stands at Yankee Stadium against the Cleveland Spiders. "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run," Gehrig told reporters after the game. "Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today, I was really trying on that last one." In all, he was 4-for-5 as the Black Yankees toppled Cleveland by a score of 11-9, knocking in 8 runs and scoring 3 times. "He is blessed with a natural home run swing," New York manager Daniel Makonnen said. "He gets the ball up in the air." Lou Gehrig doubled in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Cy Young in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Cy Young in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Chuck Porter in the 8th. This year, Gehrig is batting .286 with 6 home runs. |
