Black Yankees Hornsby Raps 3 Homers Friday, April 19th , 2002 Rogers Hornsby brutalized the San Francisco Sea Lions pitching staff, launching three home runs in the 16-6 New York victory at Oracle Park. The New York Black Yankees second baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day. "I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one." For the game, he went 6-for-6 with 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Too much Rogers Hornsby today," Sea Lions manager Daniel Makonnen said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to." Rogers Hornsby hit a two-run home run off Eddie Plank in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Charlie Ferguson in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Dennis Eckersley in the 9th. In his season totals Hornsby has 4 home runs and a .218 batting average. |
