Howard Cracks 3 HR for Solons
Thursday, May 17th , 2001
Frank Howard went yard three times in a Sacramento Solons victory over the Troy Trojans at Lloyd Street Grounds.
"I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."
For the day, the Sacramento left fielder went 4-for-5 against Troy with 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Solons to the 10-1 win.
"I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out."
Frank Howard hit a two-run home run off Joe Bush in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Edwin Jackson in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Edwin Jackson in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.
This year, Howard is batting .386 with 7 home runs.
