Torre Pounds 3 HR
Monday, May 21st , 2001
Joe Torre went yard three times in a Montgomery Biscuits victory over the Edmonton Trappers at South End Grounds.
"I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."
For the day, the Montgomery catcher went 3-for-5 against Edmonton with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Biscuits to the 9-8 win.
"I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out."
Joe Torre grounded out in the 1st, struck out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Al Orth in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Clayton Richard in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off Billy Koch in the 10th.
So far this year, Torre is hitting .316 with 5 home runs.
