MacKenzie Batters Syracuse Big Time
Monday, June 11th , 2001
Hudson Valley catcher Eric MacKenzie could do no wrong in his team's 5-1 win over the Sky Chiefs, as he collected 5 hits.
"Things were in his favor in every one of his at-bats," Sky Chiefs skipper Ray Meiners said to the press corps after the game. "He got hitters' counts."
MacKenzie agreed, saying that getting ahead early in the counts was "the key" to his game.
"Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit," he said. "You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
Eric MacKenzie singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
In 40 games this season, MacKenzie is batting .299 with 41 hits and 13 home runs. He has scored 30 runs and driven in 33.
