Bacharach Giants Hoskins Booms 3 HRs
Friday, June 15th , 2001
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Edmonton Ballpark, as Rhys Hoskins of the Atlantic City Bacharach Giants unloaded three times against the Edmonton Trappers but was still bumped off, 8-4, by the Trappers.
"We were lucky to win today," said Edmonton skipper Blake Turner. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Atlantic City left fielder had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 4.
Hoskins spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Rhys Hoskins hit a solo-shot off Mark Grant in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Mark Grant in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Clancy in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
Currently Hoskins is batting .250 with 19 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 12 runs and scored 13 times.
