Rowdy Players Suspended by League
Saturday, June 16th , 2001
After an intense confrontation, both the Trappers John Mayberry and the Bacharach Giants Shane Greene were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Edmonton-Atlantic City game. John Mayberry will miss 4 games, while Shane Greene was suspended for 9 games.
"Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," John Mayberry commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play."
So far this season, Mayberry has hit .349 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 26 times.
Greene has taken the mound for 4 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-1 record with a 6.31 ERA. The Atlantic City reliever has limited opposing batters to a .255 batting average.
