Black Senators, Erickson Stonewall Montgomery, 4-0
Thursday, June 28th , 2001
Scott Erickson of the Austin Black Senators was on top of his game.
The 28-year-old tantalized the Montgomery Biscuits with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," Montgomery manager Chris Koenigs said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Austin hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Erickson told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Erickson has registered 3 wins and 2 losses in 7 starts with a 3.86 ERA while registering 41 strikeouts and 14 walks in 49 innings.
