Albuquerque-Atlantic City Free-for-All Gets 2-Game Suspensions
Tuesday, July 31st , 2001
Sometimes on the baseball diamond disparaging words are uttered in anger and lead to more than what the players bargained for. That's what happened at yesterday's Albuquerque Isotopes-Atlantic City Bacharach Giants game at Hinchliffe Stadium. What started off as a war of words ended up a tag team match as both clubs rushed on the field to defend their honor. When the umpires sorted it all out, they ejected Albuquerque's Mike Hershberger and Atlantic City's Sam Nahem from the game for their roles in starting the melee.

Today the players were notified by the league office that they had been suspended 2 games for violating league rules.

This season in 67 games, Hershberger is batting .237 with 1 home run, 24 RBIs and has scored 32 times.

Nahem has taken the mound for 12 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-1 record with a 7.59 ERA. The Atlantic City reliever has limited opposing batters to a .301 batting average.
