Getzien Immaculate Against Tulsa, Records Perfect Game Tuesday, July 31st , 2001 With the final, flawless out recorded, the Montgomery Biscuits piled onto Pretzels Getzien at the center of the South End Grounds diamond. Getzien joined baseball's most hallowed club, completing a perfect game against the Tulsa Drillers. The 23-year-old right-hander kept the Tulsa offense guessing all day long and with some help from the defenders behind him, etched his name into the record books with the 2-0 shutout. "His breaking pitches had more movement than I've ever seen from Pretzels," Montgomery manager Chris Koenigs said in the postgame interview. "He made everyone's job easy today. He just saw a target and he hit it. Simple as that." For the game, Getzien retired all 27 batters he faced and fanned 16 of them. He walked none and nobody got on base. So far this year, Getzien has 7 wins and 6 losses and a 5.15 ERA. |
