5-Hit Blitz by Lexington's Etten
Tuesday, August 29th , 2000
The Lexington Thoroughbreds stopped the Tampa Bay Tarpons by a score of 14-6 at Plant Field today, with the lion's share of the credit going to first baseman Nick Etten. The 28-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Etten said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Etten did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Tarpons.
"Not much that I can say," offered Tampa Bay manager Travis Jackson. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Nick Etten flied out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Brandon Beachy in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Hardin in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Ray Kremer in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
Thus far this season Etten is hitting .309 with 42 home runs, 104 RBIs and 90 runs scored. He has 142 hits in 459 at-bats and has played in 114 games.
