Mulvey Parks 3 for Lynchburg
Thursday, July 27th , 2000
The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Havana Sugar Kings today.
Lynchburg third baseman Joe Mulvey tripled up on the home runs to propel the Hillcats to the 24-6 win at Gran Estadio.
"We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Havana manager Raul Gonzalez said. "Mulvey hit the heck out of the ball."
In addition to the homers, Mulvey collected 3 hits in 7 at-bats, 8 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings."
Joe Mulvey hit a three-run home run off Jim Bullinger in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jim Bullinger in the 3rd, struck out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Chico L Fernandez in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and struck out in the 9th.
This season in 61 games Mulvey is batting .266 with 28 home runs, 56 RBIs and has scored 49 times.
