Thrice Is Nice: Philley Unloads 3 Homers
Thursday, August 3rd , 2000
Dave Philley went on an explosive hitting spree against the Staten Island Yankees at Ballpark at St. George today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks to the 13-7 win.
The right fielder finished 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI.
"It was just one of those days," Philley said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."
Staten Island skipper Steve Bowers said Philley was "locked-in."
"We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him."
Dave Philley struck out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Kevin Foster in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Kevin Foster in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off Junichi Tazawa in the 7th and struck out in the 9th.
