Chavez Scorches Yankees for 3 HR
Friday, August 4th , 2000
Eric Chavez brutalized the Staten Island Yankees pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 8-6 victory at Lexington Park. The St. Paul Colored Gophers third baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.

"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."

For the game, he went 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

"Too much Eric Chavez today," Yankees manager Steve Bowers said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."

Eric Chavez hit a solo-shot off Mike Trombley in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Mike Trombley in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Tom Gorzelanny in the 5th and walked in the 7th.

Currently Chavez is hitting .350 and has collected 27 home runs, 58 RBIs and scored 52 times, while playing in 57 games.
