Marte Goes Yard 3 Times Sunday, August 6th , 2000 Starling Marte went yard three times in a Kenosha Comets victory over the Pine Bluff Judges at Taylor Memorial Field today. "I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit." For the day, the Kenosha left fielder went 4-for-5 against Pine Bluff with 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Comets to the 14-4 win. "I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out." Starling Marte struck out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Ubaldo Jimenez in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Chad Paronto in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Steve Wilson in the 8th. In 70 games this season Marte is batting .356 with 100 hits and 32 home runs. He has scored 67 runs and driven in 64. |
