3 Home Runs for Belardi
Friday, August 25th , 2000
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.

It happened at Bingo's Temporary Park & Shelter today, as Wayne Belardi of the Bingo Long's Traveling All Stars unloaded three times against the Biloxi Shuckers but was still bumped off 13-10 by the Shuckers.

"We were lucky to win today," said Biloxi skipper Pat McCaskill. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."

For the game, the Bingo Long's first baseman had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 4.

Belardi spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.

"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."

Wayne Belardi struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Cal Eldred in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Bill Magee in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Ryan Pressly in the 9th.

This season Belardi has hit 67 home runs and posted a .284 batting average.
