Koy Cracks 3 HR for Sugar Kings
Sunday, August 27th , 2000
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.

It happened at Gran Estadio today, as Ernie Koy of the Havana Sugar Kings unloaded three times against the Armstrong's Secret Nine but was still bumped off 6-4 by the Secret Nine.

"We were lucky to win today," said Armstrong's skipper Justin Bogue. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."

For the game, the Havana left fielder had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 3.

Koy spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.

"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."

Ernie Koy hit a solo-shot off Fritz Peterson in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Fritz Peterson in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Fritz Peterson in the 8th and struck out in the 10th.

This season in 86 games Koy is batting .313 with 36 home runs, 81 RBIs and has scored 62 times.
