Egan Socks It to Cienfuegos 3 Times
Monday, April 23rd , 2001
Tom Egan went the distance three times in the Roanake-Cienfuegos tilt at Estadio 5 de Septiembre, but the Black Cardinals lost, 6-5.
"Gosh, it's a shame we didn't win this game," Egan said later.
For the day, the Roanake catcher went 3-for-4 against Cienfuegos with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.
"I was in a groove and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a basketball," he said. "I tell you what, I was surprised because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."
Tom Egan hit a solo-shot off Josh Beckett in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off José Lima in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Roenis Elías in the 8th.
For the season, Egan has produced 20 hits in 56 at-bats for a .357 average with 6 home runs and gotten on base at a .419 clip.
