Elefantes Get One to Win
Friday, May 18th , 2001
Carlton Loewer bent a little, but he didn't break against the Oakland Oaks. The Cienfuegos Elefantes pitcher hurled a 1-hit, 1-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 1 walk and tallying 5 strikeouts.
"Carlton is good at getting out of jams," Elefantes manager Kyle Gates told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
For the season, Loewer has logged 3 wins and 1 loss and struck out 22 batters in 28.2 innings while compiling a 3.77 ERA.
