League Suspends Grote and Buehler for Fisticuffs Sunday, June 3rd , 2001 Yesterday at BBT_Coastal_field Jerry Grote and Walker Buehler got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Roanake Black Cardinals and Albany Diamond Dogs. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Grote will have to sit out 3 while Buehler would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Thus far this year, Grote is batting .210 with 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 20 runs scored. On the year, Buehler has worked 61.2 innings with 60 strikeouts en route to a 1-4 record and 5.40 ERA. |
